BBFC Classification (Age Rating)
I want to achieve a 15 age rating for my film so that it can appeal to an audience that is typical of the crime drama genre and the film's influences like The Big Lebowski which shares a similar (18) age rating. By obscuring scenes of violence and omitting significant use of foul language, the film's age rating comes from its themes, settings, depictions of characters and events such as drug smuggling and extortion, all typical of the genre.
Genre Conventions
I will follow the conventions of the crime drama genre through stereotypical denotations like gun crime, threats of violence, alcohol and drugs. These paired with connotations of organised crime signified through the mob members/leader and portrayal of death as a consequence for these group's involvement help to convey the drama aspect of a crime narrative. The clash between the protagonist's mundane life against the danger of organised crime help to further this drama as he's pulled into a totally different world by an extortionate friend. Therefore, I will meet the gritty, surrealist conventions of the crime drama genre through these portrayals of violent, tragic and grounded themes for the kind of verisimilitude typical of the genre.
